Ultrasound therapy is a simple form of deep heat that penetrates deep into the muscles. A gel is applied to the area to be treated and transmits the sound waves from the ultrasound installment into the tissue of the treatment area. The deep heat increases circulation to the area which speeds the healing process. It also relaxes muscles and reduces pain and tenderness. The therapy session typically lasts 10 to 15 minutes and the patient typically feels a warm, comfortable sensation.
